Cda’S Pratt Is Border League’S Top Coach
The postseason honors have begun to roll in for the Coeur d’Alene High girls basketball team.
Second-year Vikings coach Bill Pratt was selected as Border League coach of the year Monday after the boys and girls coaches voted for their season-ending awards.
After Pratt coached CdA to a share of the league title with Moscow, the Vikings (21-7) followed up with the Region I title. They capped their season Saturday by taking third place at the State A-1 tournament.
Senior wing Janelle Ruen of Post Falls is the most valuable player.
CdA junior post Shaylia Davis was named to the all-league first team after being selected Sunday to the media’s A-1 all-tournament team at state. Davis is joined on the all-league first team by senior guard Kara Weitman of Cheney, junior forward Amber Matthews and junior post Courtney Goetz of Moscow and junior guard Cassie Bro of Lake City.
Moscow sophomore guard Brenda Robinson is newcomer of the year after helping the Bears tie CdA for the league title. Moscow finished second at state.
First-year Sandpoint coach Kurt Lundblad was named boys coach of the year, and West Valley senior forward Brad Groh the MVP.
The all-league first team were East Valley junior Andrew Burgess, Sandpoint senior Paul Nieman, Post Falls junior Scott Klaudt and West Valley senior Eric Deno and Moscow sophomore wing Darnell Williams.
Coeur d’Alene sophomore guard Jason Rupp and Cheney sophomore forward Ben Woodard share honors as newcomers of the year.
