Stephen Ministers To Be Commissioned

Christ Lutheran Church will commission its first group of nine Stephen ministers at a special worship service at 8 a.m. on Sunday.

Stephen Ministry is a national program that offers 50 hours of intensive training to lay people in congregations.

Stephen ministers are trained to give care and support to people who are facing various crises in their lives, such as terminal illness, grief, divorce, hospitalization, job loss or spiritual difficulties.

Convention at Valley Assembly

Valley Assembly of God Church, 15618 E. Broadway, is hosting a week-long Missions Convention.

The event begins with an international food fair on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Foods from various countries will be served during the free meal.

A parade of flags will be part of the 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. worship services Sunday.

Missionaries are scheduled to speak at 6 p.m. Sunday and at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Rev. Les Welk, assistant superintendent of the Northwest District of the Assemblies of God, will speak at the 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. worship services on March 7.

An Urban Ministries Night at 6 p.m. March 7 will close the week of activities.

Youth groups fast for 30 hours

Several youth groups from Episcopalian churches in the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area are participating in a 30-hour fast that ends today.

The youth have been fasting since noon Friday and will spend part of the day today volunteering at the Union Gospel Mission.

The youth have been collecting pledges and are participating in the event to raise money for World Vision, a nonprofit relief organization.

World Day of Prayer

Millwood Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road, will celebrate the 112th World Day of Prayer with a worship service at 1 p.m. on Friday.

This year’s ecumenical service, titled “God’s Tender Touch,” was written by a group of women from 12 different churches in Venezuela.

The event is sponsored by the Spokane Valley Church Women United.
