Eastern Washington University is accepting entries for its annual Black History Month Essay Contest.
The assignment: The work of Martin Luther King Jr. and others who were committed to the Civil Rights Movement intended to give dignity to people of all walks of life. What does the word “dignity” mean to you? Also, tell about a person (past or present) who inspires you with a sense of dignity and why.
The high school division ($150 prize) is open to students in grades 10-12. Students must submit a 500-word essay. The junior high division ($100 prize) is for students in grades 7-9; they must submit a 300-word essay. Deadline for entries is Jan. 29. For more information, call (509) 359-2205.
You’re a creative person, right? Then prove it. Send us your poetry, short stories, whimsical thoughts, doodles or illustrations and a 100-word or fewer description of your work, telling us what it is and what inspired you to produce it.
Also include your full name, age, school, home phone and address. Our annual Get Creative contest is open to teenagers in grades 9-12.
If we choose your work as one of the best, we’ll publish it in Our Generation and pay you for it.
