Hooked On Soaps? Here’S A Must-Read
Can’t wait to see what’s going to happen on “Port Charles”? Looking for the latest news about “Days of Our Lives”?
Look no further than the pages of Soap Opera Weekly for the best daytime television coverage.
The Soap Opera Weekly formula is one other magazines, even beyond the soap opera world, would do well to emulate.
It has not dumbed itself down in recent years. The magazine acknowledges the soap medium’s more bizarre offerings (clones, returns from the dead, etc.) but gives intelligent credence to the good things soap operas have to offer such as powerful entertainment and the ability to teach on a daily basis. And it talks up to its readers and maintains an affordable price.
Soap Opera Weekly realizes soap operas and soap viewers have nothing to be ashamed of.
News reported in this magazine is usually the first, the best-covered and/or the most truth-filled. Arrivals and departures of soap stars such as Tristan Rogers, Maurice Benard and Rebecca Budig to and from shows like “The Bold and the Beautiful,” “General Hospital,” and “Guiding Light” are announced regularly. There’s also a wonderful regular feature called “Real News,” in which actors comment on real-life events.
Fans are given ample opportunity to sound off, and columns by editor Mimi Torchin and Marlena De Lacroix are always wonderfully cerebral; they alone make Soap Opera Weekly a must-read.
Its only fault is its continuing failure to announce the triumphant return of Anders Hove as General Hospital’s nefarious Cesar Faison. Stay tuned…
