Four Dogs Euthanized After Killing Animals

Spokane County Animal Control officials euthanized four animals who lived on Five Mile Prairie earlier this month.

Three Rottweilers and a Chow mix were destroyed after they went on a rampage at their owner’s home and killed three of their pigs and a chicken on Jan. 3.

And, according to the officer who responded to the 3300 block of West Connaught, the situation could have been much worse.

“They got out of their property, and two of the Rottweilers threatened neighbors who were on their deck,” said officer Jennifer Klein. “Fortunately they managed to get in their home and nobody was hurt.”

The dogs belonged to Carl and Eva Harper, Klein said. Eva Harper told Klein that their 15-year-old daughter was collecting the animals to breed and train.

Eva Harper signed the release for the destruction of the animals. Klein said the matter took three hours to handle.

“We very seldom have this situation in the county,” she said. “There was another Rottweiler and a Collie that were on the property that didn’t appear to cause any problems.”

Those animals weren’t destroyed.

Klein said Eva Harper told her the family had just moved to their new home last month.

The Harpers could not be reached for comment.
