Ex-Potlatch Official Gets Council Post

From Staff

Retired Potlatch Corp. executive Todd Maddock was elected chairman of the Northwest Power Planning Council Wednesday.

He replaces John Etchart of Montana, who held the post for three years but did not seek re-election.

The council is made up of two representatives each from Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Montana. They are responsible for mitigating and enhancing fish and wildlife affected by the region’s dams while assuring adequate, affordable electricity supply.

Current issues facing the council include ongoing attempts to recover Snake River salmon and the Bonneville Power Administration’s transition to a more competitive marketplace. The council also will be making rules for an updated multi-species recovery plan for fish and wildlife in the Columbia River Basin.
