Summary: The Eagles (6-8, 3-1 Big Sky) hope to build on their best conference start in nine seasons, but don’t expect the sailing to be as smooth as it was in Thursday’s record-setting 87-42 rout of Cal State Sacramento.
Weber (12-5, 4-1) was one of the preseason Big Sky favorites and boasts, perhaps, the league’s best player in junior forward Harold Arceneaux, a second-team Junior College All-American last year. Arceneaux is averaging 20.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and nearly two steals and two blocks per game. He is joined by junior guard Eddie Gill, another second-team JC All-American, averaging 11.4 points per game, and senior guard Damien Baskerville, who torched the Eagles for 55 points in two meetings last year.

Summary: Portland (7-8, 0-3) gets the homecourt advantage this time as the teams stage a rematch of Wednesday’s encounter at GU’s Martin Centre. The Bulldogs (13-4, 3-0) won that one, 104-57, and Pilots coach Rob Chavez faces the daunting task of convincing his team a simple change of venue is worth at least 47 points.
Portland makes its living with an aggressive, attacking defense, but GU - aside from a few turnovers inside against the double-team - handled the pressure nicely last time. The Bulldogs are just too strong on the perimeter, where the heroes change nightly.
