Key Tronic Sales Up
Sales and net earnings are up for Key Tronic Corp., the Spokane-based computer keyboard manufacturer, thanks to its original design and manufacturing division.
Key Tronic reported a $4.9 million improvement in sales to $48 million, and a $860,000 net income for the second quarter of fiscal 1999, up from $248,000 the year before.
For its first six fiscal months, Key Tronic reported net income of $1.4 million on sales of $90.3 million. That was up from $391,000 income on sales of $84.4 million for the same period in 1997.
The company attributes the increase to its original design and manufacturing business, which develops ideas into working model products. That business accounted for 20 percent of second quarter sales, up from 10 percent a year ago. Products include a mix of engineered devices that have higher selling prices and higher return on investment than keyboards.
Jack Oehlke, president and CEO, said the company’s strategy to focus on original design products is paying off.
Key Tronic shares closed at $5 Tuesday, up six cents on the Nasdaq exchange.
