Lc Hands G-Prep Its First Defeat
GSL girls
Sarah Babin’s free throw with 5 seconds left proved to be the difference as Lewis and Clark shocked fourth-ranked Gonzaga Prep 50-49 in a Greater Spokane League girls basketball game at Prep on Tuesday night.
The Bullpups, who have been cutting it close in recent games, fell behind by eight entering the fourth quarter. They tied the game with 1:20 to go, but Janell Wendle’s 3-pointer with a minute remaining put the Tigers up for good.
After Babin’s free throw, Juliann Laney put in a 2-pointer at the buzzer for Prep, which lost for the first time this season.
Wendle led LC with 13 points and Sara Glotfelty contributed 10.
Laney, a sophomore, had 15 for Prep and freshman teammate Katie Gillum added 11.
The Bullpups won their previous five games by an average of 4 points.
