Olympic-Class Wrestlers To Visit Area Middle-Schools This Spring
Spokane School District 81 middle schoolers will get a chance to spend time with world-class wrestlers from around the world who will be in Spokane in March and April.
District 81 and the local organizing committee for the 27th World Cup of Wrestling have partnered in a program that will bring Olympic-class wrestlers into local middle schools.
The 27th World Cup of Wrestling will be held in the Spokane Arena April 2-3.
“This will offer an exciting cultural experience for our area middle school children,” said Glover Middle School principal Phil Newsum.
“What better role models are there for the youth of our community than Olympic athletes?” he said.
The middle schools hosting team delegations are Sacajawea, hosting Canada; Chase, hosting Cuba; Salk, hosting Germany; Garry, hosting Iran; Shaw, hosting Russia; and Glover, hosting the U.S.
“Each middle school plans to utilize this event to foster the Olympic spirit,” said Toby Steward of Star USA.
Planned activities range from all-schools assemblies and hosting the athletes for lunch to watching demonstrations of the sport and team training.
All-session tickets for the World Cup are now on sale at G & B Select-A-Seat outlets. The World Cup is four separate sessions with each country competing in a dual competition format.
