Police Check Bones Found At Post Office

From Staff

Bones found by construction workers doing remodeling work at the post office have police trying to determine their origin.

The workers were tearing out an old ramp behind the U.S. Post Office at Seventh Street and Lakeside Avenue when they found several bone fragments Tuesday afternoon. The bones were buried about 3 feet deep, police said.

Saw marks found on the bones probably mean the bones are animal remains, police said.

Found bones typically turn out to be from animals, but police said they encourage residents to report such discoveries anyway.

Police said it will take at least a week for lab tests to be completed.
