Jason Hartman’s two free throws and a steal of the inbound pass in overtime lifted Portland State to a 76-75 win over visiting Montana State Saturday, the Vikings’ 19th straight home win. Hartman led all scorers with 27 points, 15 in the second half. Bobcats center Nate Holmstadt scored 22 of his 26 points in the second half, while guard Jeff Riggs added 18… . Kevin Sweetwyne scored 19 points as visiting Idaho State held off Sacramento State late in the game to register a 57-54 victory. The losing continues for Sacramento State, which has lost 33 straight games over the past two years and is closing in on the Division I national record of 37, set by The Citadel in the 1954 and 1955 seasons. The Hornets haven’t won a game since Dec. 13, 1997.

Mate Milisa hit the winning basket with 9.3 seconds remaining to lift visiting Long Beach State to a 64-63 victory over UC Irvine Saturday night. Ramel Lloyd led Long Beach State with 18 points, while Milisa added 15 and D’Cean Bryant scored 10. UC Irvine’s Jerry Green hit a jumper with 31.3 seconds left to give the Anteaters a 63-62 lead before Milisa hit the winning shot. There were 13 lead changes in the second half. Green led UC Irvine with 21 points, while Adam Stetson scored 15 and Marek Ondera added 14… . Senior forward Roberto Bergersen lead a balanced scoring attack with 25 points as Boise State routed visiting Nevada 77-52. Bergersen hit three-of-six 3-point attempts and all four of his free throws. Forward Lamont Bonner and guard John Burrell led the Wolf Pack with 13 points apiece. Boise State held a 38-26 lead at the half and never was threatened as it widened its lead behind the play of Bergersen and freshman center Abe Jackson, who was making his first collegiate start. Jackson scored 14 points and led the Broncos with nine rebounds. North Texas fought its way back from an 11-point deficit against the Mustangs, tying the game at 80 with 6:17 remaining. But in the end, the Eagles’ poor free-throw showing (8 of 17), compared with Cal Poly’s 23-for-28 showing, resulted in a 93-86 Mustangs road victory. Cal Poly’s Mike Wozniak scored 16 of his game-high 24 points in the second half.

Eric Schraeder’s basket at 3:15 left in the game and a key steal in the closing minutes was enough to hold off Loyola-Marymount as St. Mary’s broke a three-game losing streak with an 86-81 win in Moraga, Calif. Frank Allocco had a career-high 22 points for St. Mary’s… . Terrence Moore came off the bench for 15 rebounds and 29 points, helping San Francisco overcome the early loss of scoring leader Gerald Zimmerman in a 65-60 victory over visiting Portland. Zimmerman crashed to the floor chasing a loose ball and hurt his right wrist just 5 minutes into the game.
