Getting A Face Lift

The “Our Lady of the Freeway” mural by artist Kent Twitchell slowly is being restored. The 20-foot-high mural stared down on the Hollywood Freeway until the art was painted over more than a decade ago. Now, a dozen volunteers from the Mural Conservancy of Los Angeles are using heat guns and spatulas to peel white paint from the side of a hotel where the mural, protected by a layer of varnish, was painted in 1974.
