North Gets A Platform

Cable network MSNBC hired archconservative Oliver North on Thursday as co-host of a prime-time political talk show. North, a retired Marine lieutenant colonel who was a key figure in the Iran Contra scandal during the Reagan administration, and liberal commentator Cynthia Alksne will run “Equal Time” weeknights at 8 p.m. EST. North, also an unsuccessful Senate candidate in Virginia, said he’s glad MSNBC is giving conservatives like him a chance to speak their mind. “I think what they are doing is reaching out to try to balance what is perceived to be a liberal perspective,” he said in a telephone interview.
