Police Look For Would-Be Robber
Police are looking for a man whose plan to rob a Spokane convenience store last week was foiled when the clerk pulled out a steel pipe to defend himself.
Detectives released a photograph of the would-be bandit Thursday. A security camera at Hamilton Food Mart, 1918 N. Hamilton, captured the attempted robbery on Jan. 21.
The clerk told police the suspect walked into the store about 10 p.m., grabbed a bag of Cheetos and went to the counter.
When the employee opened the register, the man pulled out a knife and demanded money. Instead, the clerk grabbed his pipe from under the counter. The bandit ran away empty-handed, police said.
The clerk said the suspect is white, in his 30s, about 6 feet 2 inches tall, with long, dirty hair.
Anyone with information on the suspect or the attempted robbery is asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
