Nike reported strong profits for its fourth quarter, although its performance was down slightly for the year. The world’s largest athletic shoe and clothing maker had profits of $94.4 million, or 33 cents per share for the quarter, compared with a loss of $67.7 million, or 23 cents a share, in the same ‘98 quarter.

General Motors Corp. said Wednesday it plans to acquire the rights to market and distribute the Hummer, the civilian version of the military’s tank-like “Humvee” all-terrain vehicle.
