Two Arrested For Burglary
Two men walked through the unlocked door of a house and threatened a woman before taking her car keys and throwing a television on the floor Saturday night, police said.
The victim, in her 30s, was on the telephone at the time of the incident. She told the person on the other end to call 911. She then ran from her house along the 1400 block of West Euclid, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.
She told officers she didn’t know either of the suspects and told them to leave when they entered. She said one of the men threw her TV on the floor and advanced at her. That’s when she left, Cottam said.
A neighbor saw the men enter the house and told her husband. The husband and two other men stopped the suspects as they left the yard and held them for police, he said.
Police arrested Jeremy P. Tylock, 22, who gave his address as 9310 E. Montgomery, and Daniel J. Haggerty, also 22, who gave his address as 1509 W. Alice, for residential burglary, a felony.
“Half of all burglaries in Spokane occur through unlocked doors or windows,” Cottam said. “People need to secure their property whether they’re home or away.”
Police investigate counterfeit bills
A counterfeit $20 bill was turned over to police on Saturday by a north side convenience store. The Zip Trip at 1503 E. Illinois received the bill from a man known as a regular customer, Cottam said.
The clerk said the man told her he had received the bill from a Chinese restaurant. The bill and the information were turned over to the Secret Service office in Spokane, Cottam said.
“Merchants need to be aware of the presence of counterfeit currency in the area,” he said.
Man arrested in apartment burglary
A man who recently helped a woman move into her apartment broke into that apartment last week and burglarized it.
Police went to the 3000 block of North Napa on June 23 and found the apartment door open and traces of blood on the carpet and in the house, Cottam said.
A neighbor gave police the description and police found him several blocks away. David M. Erbeznik, 47, was arrested for residential burglary. He gave his address as 4827 N. Stone.
