Flyers Waive Hextall

Ron Hextall was waived by the Philadelphia Flyers, perhaps ending his 13-year career.

Hextall, the Flyers’ winningest career and playoff goaltender and a former Vezina Trophy winner, will wait 48 hours for another team to claim him. If no one does, the Flyers will buy out the final year of his contract.

Hextall, 35, was originally drafted by the Flyers in 1982, then traded to Quebec in the seven-player, blockbuster deal in which the Flyers acquired superstar Eric Lindros on June 20, 1992. Hextall was later traded to the New York Islanders, where he played only one season before being dealt back to the Flyers in 1994.
