Hanauer Speeds Along
Chip Hanauer’s comeback is going better than he ever dreamed.
The Miss Pico driver, who retired from hydroplane racing after a crash in Detroit three years ago, won his second race of the season after Dave Villwock’s favored Miss Budweiser overturned on the first lap of the final heat in the Madison Regatta.
Hanauer of Seattle received the Indiana Governor’s Cup for a record-tying seventh time and moved within one victory of tying Bill Muncey’s record 62 career wins.
Villwock, who won the two other races and leads the season point standings over Hanauer 5,845 to 5,198, was not injured.
