ADAMS COUNTY Othello
The annual Summer Park Program is in full swing, with nearly 200 children taking part in activities, crafts and swimming. Two meals are provided each day between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Older children can work as volunteers and lunch is provided.
FERRY COUNTY Inchelium
Native American basket-weaving is a dying art, but Joyce Kohler, Patty Stone and Nancy Michel have been studying basket-weaving for three years. Kohler received praise for her work at the Western Regional Indigenous Basket Weavers Gathering in Nevada. She is currently offering classes locally. To register, call (509) 722-3025.
GRANT COUNTY Moses Lake
The Grant County Fair Association needs approval from county commissioners, the Sheriff’s Department and the state Liquor Control Board to have a beer garden at the annual Grant County Fair this August. The board says it is not trying to create a raucous tavern atmosphere, but a “social mixer” feel. It is estimated that $15,000 could be garnered from a beer garden.
LINCOLN COUNTY Reardan
Dusty Wynne has been spending his summer riding bulls in the Washington State High School Rodeo Association. He has qualified as one of four Washington riders to go to nationals in Nevada. Wynne will be a senior at Reardan High School this fall.
SPOKANE COUNTY Cheney
The Cheney Parks and Recreation Department is once again sponsoring Thursday night concerts in Sutton Park. The free 6 p.m. performances run through Aug. 19 and feature local musicians.
STEVENS COUNTY Kettle Falls
The Native American Art Show, featuring cradleboards, beadwork, cedar bark baskets and antler art, is on display at the Kettle Falls Historical Center. Participating area artists include Smoker Marchand, George Flett, Robert Redbird, Keith Powell and Jayme and Georgia Tongel. The center is open Wednesday through Sunday and is located 3-1/2 miles north of Kettle Falls on state Highway 395.
WHITMAN COUNTY Pullman
The Koppel Farm Midweek Farmers’ Market will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday beginning this week and running through September.

BENEWAH COUNTY St. Maries
Cindy Willard, president of the St. Maries Education Association, was recently named Teacher of the Year by the association during the annual retirement dinner. Dr. Gordon Hill, Elmer Maier, Ethel Pease, Mary Schiermeister and Rose Simundson, who will retire this year, and Bob Bebee, who retired last summer, were also honored. St. Maries Chief of Police Fred Cruzan was named the Friend of Education Officer for organizing the local D.A.R.E. program and visiting St. Maries schools on a regular basis.
BONNER COUNT Priest River
The City Council has awarded a contract to DEG Construction Inc. of Sandpoint for improvements to Priest River City Park. DEG was the lowest bidder at $32,120.40 for parking lot improvements, a retaining wall and handicap-accessible pathways for the park. The work is part of a $62,204 project. The city has secured two grants totalling more than $40,000, plus matching monies and donations, to fund the project. Work is expected to be completed prior to Priest River Timber Day July 31.
BOUNDARY COUNTY Bonners Ferry

KOOTENAI COUNTY Coeur d’Alene
Wendy Jaquet of Ketchum, minority leader of the Idaho House of Representatives, will meet with local Democrats on Friday to discuss recruitment of candidates for next year’s elections. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. at 1222 N. 6th St. in Coeur d’Alene. A joint caucus committee of House and Senate Democrats is focusing on plans to recruit and train candidates, said Jerry Shriner, county party chairman. LATAH COUNTY Moscow
The Idaho Cattle Association has announced a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for recent cattle shootings in the Moscow Mountain area. Five dead heads of cattle have been reported to the Sheriff’s Department. Anyone with information on the shootings is urged to call the department at (208) 882-2216. The Osburn Public Library has received a $2,000 grant from Foundation Northwest. The money will help complete the library’s automated circulation system. Foundation Northwest bases its grants on the arts, community development education and human services.

LINCOLN COUNTY Libby
The Montana Department of Transportation has published a new map for Montana residents and out-of-state visitors planning bicycle trips on Montana’s major highways. The map provides information on traffic volumes, shoulder widths and bicycle laws. The map is available at MDT offices and bicycle shops throughout the state and can be ordered from the department’s bicycle and pedestrian coordinator by calling (406) 444-9273.
