Shoplifting Suspect Arrested

Sheriff’s deputies arrested a shoplifting supsect Monday afternoon.

Deputies arrested David M. Gill of 2227 W. Boone on suspicion of second-degree theft.

A deputy said he was investigating a traffic accident near Tidyman’s at 2024 N. Argonne around 2:45 p.m. Monday when he heard someone yell, “Officer, officer! Stop that car!”

The deputy said he turned and saw Tidyman’s employees pointing to a yellow station wagon.

He followed the vehicle to a nearby parking lot, where he found the suspect hiding under a truck. The deputy handcuffed the man and then brought him back to the store.

Employees said the man was accused of trying to leave the store with a cart containing of $461 worth of groceries, including lots of diapers, pet food and chocolate.

“It looks like a parent who had pets and a sweet tooth,” said Sheriff’s Department spokesman Dave Reagan.

Gill was booked into Spokane County Jail.
