Superintendent Applications Narrowed To Five In/Around: Deer Park

The Deer Park School Board has narrowed the field and begun the interview process for a new superintendent.

A consultant board of three former superintendents helped the school board whittle 15 applicants down to five finalists: Mary Hall from the Tekoa district south of Spokane, Greg Johnson from the Elma district in Western Washington, Harold Schockley from Powell, Wyo., Pam Veltri from Medical Lake and Terry Brandon from the Pomeroy district in Southeast Washington.

Former Deer Park School Superintendent Glenys Hill accepted a superintendent’s position with the Kelso School District that started July 1.

Individual interviews for the two female and three male candidates began Wednesday and run through Tuesday.

Each will spend a full day in Deer Park. Candidates’ interview schedules begin at 8 a.m. with a briefing of the day’s meetings.

They will meet with certificated staff, like teachers, counselors, librarians; classified staff, such as bus drivers, secretaries, custodians; school administrators; an advisory group of teachers, administrators and citizens and then have a formal, two-hour interview with school board members.

In addition, each candidate will participate in a community forum from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Arcadia Elementary School multi-purpose room, 1120 E. D St. All are welcome.

The school board hopes to announce the new superintendent by July 15.
