ADAMS COUNTY Ritzville
Five City Council seats, the mayor’s post, and two positions on the local school board are up for election this year. Elections also will be conducted for fire commissioner and openings on the Park and Recreation Board and the East Adams Rural Hospital director posts.
FERRY COUNTY Curlew
Area fire districts responded to the Curlew Store recently when a fire threatened 10 tons of stove pellets, a 500-gallon propane tank and 1,900 gallons of fuel stored above ground. Some evacuations were ordered, and more than 50 firefighters were on the scene.
GRANT COUNTY Moses Lake
A well field contamination site south of the Larson Subdivision will have 25 wells drilled into it next week. They will be tested quarterly for a metals cleaner called trychloroenthylene. The site allegedly was contaminated while used as an Air Force facility from 1942 to the mid-1960s.
LINCOLN COUNTY Odessa
Odessa Union Warehouse is weathering a sales decline. The warehouse received 7,497,341 bushels of grain from the 1998 harvest, down 1.7 million bushels from the previous year. With the low price of wheat, sales were obviously down, but storage and handling fees remained the same. A merger with Odessa Trading Company was proposed, but too few members cast votes to make the deal a reality.
PEND OREILLE COUNTY Usk
The town’s annual Poker Paddle will be July 17 and 18. The paddle part of the event runs from Usk to Ione. Entry forms can be obtained by calling (509) 445-1374. The fee is $30.
SPOKANE COUNTY Deer Park
Jason Langbehn, son of Dave and Connie Langbehn of Deer Park and a 1995 Deer Park High School graduate, recently received a bachelor’s degree in geography and environmental studies from Central Washington University.
STEVENS COUNTY Colville
The Keller Heritage Center and Stevens County Historical Society will be planning for the future. The society recently received a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to review current practices, achieve professional museum standards and plan how to serve the community.
WHITMAN COUNTY Pullman

BENEWAH COUNTY Plummer
The Plummer Day celebration will be Saturday. The event will feature a Kiddie Parade at 11 a.m., followed by the main parade. There will be an arts and craft show at the community center building. A picture museum will be featured at the Rebekah Hall from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., and a variety of entertainers will perform at the tennis courts from 12:30 to 6 p.m.
BONNER COUNTY Priest Lake
Nordman-Metaline Road No. 302 in the Selkirk Mountains will be under construction beginning Monday. The road, which links Priest Lake with Sullivan Lake, Wash., is being resurfaced. Motorists can expect delays of up to a half an hour. Construction is expected to last four to six weeks.
BOUNDARY COUNTY Bonners Ferry
The 1999 Boundary County Logger Events will be Saturday at the Boundary County Fairgrounds. Sponsored by Boundary Search and Dive Rescue, the contestants meeting will begin at 4 p.m. with preliminaries immediately following. KOOTENAI COUNTY Coeur d’Alene
Sen. Mike Crapo’s regional office has moved from Second and Lakeside. The office is now in the Windermere Building, 1000 Northwest Boulevard, Suite 100. Several other offices and businesses have already left the Second Street building, which is for sale. The building is owned by Coeur d’Alene Mines.
LATAH COUNTY Moscow
University of Idaho President Bob Hoover and other top officials will help dedicate the new Hagerman Fish Culture Experiment Station during a ceremony Friday. The event will mark the transfer of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Tunison Laboratory of Fish Nutrition to the university for its support of Idaho’s aquaculture industry and work to preserve declining salmon and steelhead runs. Guests are invited to arrive at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony will begin at 11, followed by lunch and tours of the station from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
The station is on the grounds of Hagerman National Fish Hatchery, which is operated by the Fish and Wildlife Service.
SHOSHONE COUNTY Wallace
The new Wallace District Arts Center will open its doors to the public today. The center moved to its new location at 610 Bank Street in the old Coeur d’Alene Hardware building in May. New artwork from Silver Valley residents will be on display. The art show will continue through August 1.

LINCOLN COUNTY Libby
Kootenai Valley Head Start is accepting enrollment applications for the 1999-2000 program year. Children must be 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 10. Libby registration will be July 19-22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Libby Head Start Center. Registration in Troy will be July 12-15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Troy Head Start Center. Parents or guardians are asked to bring verification of annual income and the child’s immunization records.
