Time To Remember That Good Neighbor
There is something about letters that people love.
The heft of a fat envelope.
The crispness of its corners. The design on an interesting stamp. The promise of special news inside. So last week when we shook our Great Big Good Neighbor Box, where all the nomination letters go, we were excited.
Folks, it did not sound good. All we heard were a few lonely envelopes shuffling around. Naturally, we were a bit disappointed.
But not for long. The letters that we’ve received so far are terrific, and we have faith that they are the trickle before the flood.
After all, there are plenty of good neighbors out there.
You know the type: People who make a real difference in their community. They help freely when it’s asked for, and often when it’s not. We just need you to tell us who they are.
So send in your letter or e-mail this week. Tell us, in 250 words (about one page double spaced) what your nominee has done to make a real difference in your neighborhood. Fill the page with examples illustrating your pick’s merit.
The deadline is Aug. 2 so you don’t have much time. The winners - one each from the North Side, South Side and Valley - will be announced in the Voices on Aug. 19.
Winners will get an engraved plaque, and we’ll throw a scrumptious repast in their honor for their block.
