Kennewick Blaze Contained

From Staff

A 2,000-acre brush fire that had threatened a small housing development southwest of the city was declared contained Friday night.

A blaze reported at noon Friday spread to within a half-mile of about a dozen homes in the Triple Vista housing development, about eight miles outside of town in Badger Canyon, said Troy Berglund, Benton County Emergency Services spokesman.

Residents were not evacuated.

The blaze continued growing through the afternoon before about 140 firefighters from Benton, Franklin and Walla Walla counties managed to encircle the blaze with fire lines in the evening, Berglund said.

Firefighters on Saturday planned to mop up hot spots, Berglund said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
