Football is a `sport’

A “sport” is owned, managed, coached, played and refereed by people. People aren’t perfect, that’s why the immense interest in sports not for perfection in outcome, but for competition that includes all variables.

Returning instant replay is adding a mechanical variable, requiring another level of middle management that is costly. Being put in place, the judges and referees’ interest will be watered down to less than achieving the highest level in their chosen profession.

Some newscasters “calling the games” do themselves an injustice by showing their ignorance voicing their bias for or against instant replay.

I do enjoy the humor of panel participants such as Chris Berman, Terry Bradshaw, Howie Long and many more as they also teach by personally choreographing individual plays for their viewers. They generally give their picks of their favorite teams, which is what we all do who are interested in the entertaining sport of football. Joyce Courser Greenacres
