State Stars Win 4A Showdown At Buzzer

Gig Harbor’s Justin Fagering scored at the buzzer to give the State an 88-87 victory over the City in the Class 4A All-State basketball game Saturday in Yakima.

Fagering stole an inbound pass at the top of the lane, then put up a running scoop shot that went in as the buzzer sounded. It was his only basket.

Class 3A

Terry Thompson of Ingraham scored 21 points, 15 in the second half, to lead the State team to a 104-91 win over the City.

Thompson, who hit 10 of 22 shots, was named most valuable player.

Class 2A

Scott Freymond’s 3-point basket at the buzzer gave the West a 102-99 victory over the East.

Freymond, from Elma, hit the shot after the East’s Brent Cummings of Pullman had tied the game at 99 with two free throws with 7 seconds left. Cummings led his team with 22 points and Brooks Kohls added 18.

Class A

Andrew Mead of Onalaska scored 13 points and added five rebounds and four assists as the West rolled to a 91-79 victory over the East.

Mead was named the game’s most valuable player. West teammates Kurt Wallace and Jim Netteland of Toledo, and Jon Vis of LaCenter each added 13 points.

Reece Jenkins of Reardan scored 13 points for the East.

Class B

The overpowering play of Reggie Harris of Orcas Island, who scored 17 points and grabbed 18 rebounds, led the West to an 86-83 victory.

Waitsburg’s T.J. Scott led the East with 16 points. Grant Bafus of St. John-Endicott scored 13.
