Growth Hearing Set For Stevens County
Stevens County commissioners will conduct a public hearing Aug. 10 on proposed revisions to the county’s “urban growth areas” under the state Growth Management Act.
Greenbelts and open spaces in the growth areas around the county’s cities will be discussed at the 3 p.m. hearing in the county courthouse.
Commissioners are conducting a series of meetings to review urban growth designations that the Eastern Washington Growth Management Hearings Board said were improperly adopted without adequate public discussion.
The ongoing review also could be found invalid if a Springdale couple, Al and Saundra Wilma, prevail in a lawsuit to modify the Growth Management Hearings Board’s decision in May. The Wilmas contend the board erred in allowing the original urban growth designations to remain in effect while they are being revised.
