New faces:
Bovay Northwest/Dames & Moore have added the following professionals to their Spokane office:
Robert Lefond has joined Bovay Northwest as a senior mechanical engineer. He previously worked for fortune 100 companies designing industrial process, material handling, air pollution and HVAC equipment and instrumentation. He earned degrees in mechanical engineering and an MBA in finance at the university of Colorado. Current projects include mechanical designs and upgrades for the Coeur d’Alene school district, Washington State University, the Oregon Air National guard in Klamath Falls and a major food processor in Western Washington.
James “Jim” Paulson has 20 years of civil engineering and construction experience, which includes work on sewer, water and pump station projects throughout the Northwest. A graduate of the University of Idaho, he is a registered professional engineer in Washington and Idaho. Current projects include wastewater system upgrades at several Washington State Department of Transportation facilities, sewage system improvements at Eastern Washington State Hospital and civil design for Washington State University’s hazardous waste facilities.
Richard Crossler joined Bovay Northwest as a staff structural engineer.
A graduate of the University of Idaho, he earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering. His current projects include seismic risk assessment studies and structural design for the city of Spokane wastewater treatment facility program management office.
Gloria Mantz joined Bovay Northwest as a civil/environmental engineer. She received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Gonzaga University and a master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of Notre Dame. She is currently preparing civil engineering designs for Washington State Department of Transportation water and wastewater projects.
Margaret “Peggy” Pitt was named an office administrative supervisor. She has 15 years of experience in consulting engineering office administration and support staff supervision. Pitt specializes in financial and personnel management and will be responsible for managing an office space expansion planned this summer.
Joel Espinoza has joined Dames & Moore as an environmental technician. He previously was the pollution prevention and recycling center manager at Fairchild Air Force Base, where he was responsible for proper management and disposal of hazardous material, environmental monitoring and pollution prevention. He currently provides hazardous waste program support at Fairchild.
Moving up:
Global Credit Union has promoted Shelby Stanton to operations administrator for the Real Estate Lending Department located at the main office in downtown Spokane. Stanton, who has 12 years of experience in the real estate lending industry, previously was a real estate loan officer.
Joe Young, dean of instruction for technical education at Spokane Community College, has been named interim vice president of instruction at the college. He replaces Tony Embrey, who retired June 30. Young joined SCC as a mechanical drafting instructor in 1968. He also has worked as Title III director and continuing education director. Young studied drafting at the Detroit, Mich., College of Applied Science and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Eastern Washington University. He also holds a doctoral degree from Gonzaga University.
Alex Cameron, interim vice president for business and finance at Eastern Washington University, has been named interim dean of Eastern’s College of Business and Public Administration. Cameron assumed his new duties when John Schleede, former dean of the college, left for a similar post at Central Michigan University on July 1. Cameron, who earned a Ph.D. in accounting from the University of Utah, has served as interim vice president for the past year. He served as associate dean of the College of Business and Public Administration from 1990-97 and was chair of the Department of Accounting in 1988 and 1989.
Appointed:
Mary Jane Patterson of Seattle has been appointed vice president of the Gonzaga University Board of Regents, replacing Pauline Love, also of Seattle, who was elected to the university’s Board of Trustees in February. Patterson, who has been a GU regent since 1994, is vice president of G.W. Capital Inc. in Bellevue, Wash. She received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Gonzaga in 1969.
Kudos:
Seventeen faculty members from Community Colleges of Spokane have been honored with 1999 Exceptional Faculty Awards. The awards carry a $500 grant. The eight SCC faculty members honored include: Bob Branch, math instructor; Georgeanna Conrad, health science instructor; Sharon Meyer, business/office technology instructor; Sharon Niblock, business/office technology instructor; Joseph Ohl, business/office technology instructor; Earl Peck, life sciences instructor; Greg Richards, culinary arts instructor; and Cathy Schaffer, SCC Career Center counselor. The seven SFCC faculty members honored include: Paul Halversen, fine arts/music instructor; Rex Hollowell, philosophy instructor; Teresa Massey, communications instructor; Polly McMahon, gerontology instructor; Walt Spangenberg, biology instructor; William Thomas, management instructor; and Carrie Vielle, interior design instructor. The two IEL instructors chosen for the award include: Mary Armantrout, English and interpersonal communications instructor; and Carol Munday, adult basic education instructor, ABE Center.
