Mike Vlahovich Staff Writer

Spokane Olympic Sports won 9 of its last 10 games - and the coin flip - to earn championship of and top playoff seed in the AA American Legion Baseball South Division.

The three best-of-three series playoffs began on Tuesday with SOS beating Kimmel Athletic, sixth during the regular season, 14-2.

Spokane Athletic Supply from Central Valley shared the division championship at 16-4 with University High-based SOS and beat Whitman County 9-3 in another best-of-three series opener.

Winners of those two will then meet beginning Friday in a best-of-three playoff for the division title. The following Tuesday, that winner meets the North Division AA champion in a best-of-three series that qualifies the eventual survivor to state.

The young SOS includes five varsity veterans, three of them regulars, six off junior varsity and five sophomores-to-be on the roster, The team played 10 games in 11 days between July 5 and July 15, including a pair of doubleheaders.

Only loss was the second game of a twin bill in Lewiston.

Spokane Athletic, also with five varsity vets, split its final four games, enabling Olympic to share the league title, one game ahead of third-place Lewis-Clark Bucs.
