Wilson Library Space Doubling
Wilson Elementary is expanding and improving its library this summer. School principal Janet Gores said she is optimistic the project will be completed by Sept. 2, the start of the new school year.
The former library space is being doubled by knocking down a wall between the old library and the adjacent kindergarten room. The new kindergarten room is located in the recently built wing.
The new space will be remodeled to include more book shelves and a high-tech media space, Gores said.
“We envision it being the center of the school,” she said.
Wilson, Pratt and Madison Elementary schools also have been given money this year from the 1998 bond levy to improve their libraries.
People interested in donating books may contact Wilson Elementary at 353-4548 for more information.

Odyssey expands
District 81’s Odyssey Program has received school board approval to offer an eighth-grade class this fall.
Odyssey is open to qualifying children, but priority for eighth-grade enrollment will be given to seventh-graders currently in the program, Director Deborah Johnson said.
The program offers an accelerated curriculum for gifted children. Last year the program taught fifth, sixth and seventh grades.
A survey of parents last March determined there was sufficient interest to offer eighth grade, Johnson said.
The Libby Center, where the Odyssey Program is taught, will be holding an open house Aug. 30.
