Moscow-Pullman Plan Gets Hearing
More than 50 people attended a public hearing here Monday on the future of the Moscow-Pullman corridor.
Area residents are polarized about whether to allow additional development in the eight-mile stretch between the two university towns.
Whitman County landowners and business representatives, including the Pullman Chamber of Commerce, urged the commissioners to move forward with a plan to change the comprehensive plan to allow more development, which would expand the county’s tax base.
The changes would allow corridor landowners to apply for conditionaluse permits for an array of different business developments.
A number of Moscow and Pullman residents, as well as university officials, asked commissioners to spend more time developing a cooperative plan that included more citizen participation. Commissioners said they would extend the public comment period through the week so others could submit written comments on the plan. A decision is expected at the next county commissioner’s meeting.
