Cannons Take Wild Title Game

Chris Hilsabeck capped a three run ninth with an RBI single Wednesday night, allowing the Cannons to edge the Bandits 15-14 in a wild finish to win the district Senior American Legion baseball championship at Jackson Field.

The Bandits had scored nine times in the top of the ninth to take a 14-12 lead.

The Cannons, who will play the North Stars Saturday for state seeding, won the series, 2-0.

Joe Spears struck out 19 in seven innings, but lost as Spokane Athletic swept the Junior Legion title series by beating Spears and the Panorama Twins 2-1 at Jackson.

Golf

Ryan Camp of Ferris High has qualified for match play at the U.S. Junior Amateur in York, Pa.

The veteran of Ferris’ state champion team shot rounds of 71 and 72 to make the cut after two days of play.

Lewis and Clark High’s Bill Witte, Washington state’s other representative, shot 74 and 76. He missed the cut by three strokes.

Camp, one of 64 remaining players from the field of 156, begins match play this morning.

Reid Hatley, among Camp’s Ferris teammates, shares third place after the first day of the Washington State Men’s Amateur at Fort Lewis GC in Tacoma.

Hatley shot a 70 with nines of 34 and 36. Eastern Washington University’s Kyle Kelly is among nine players at 71.

Football

University of Idaho nose guard Wil Beck has been fined and placed on probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges stemming from a disturbance after Idaho’s Humanitarian Bowl victory in Boise last December.

Beck, 19, of Veradale, pleaded guilty to illegal consumption of alcohol and resisting and obstructing police.

Beck will pay a $278.50 fine and serve a year’s probation. His driver’s license was also suspended.
