Fairfield Library Will Close For 3 Months For Renovations
Hurry - check out some books! The Fairfield Library is taking a three-month vacation for renovation starting Sunday. When it opens in November, it will have a completely remodeled interior, a new meeting room and a donated plaza in front.
The updated Fairfield Library also will have a paved parking lot, a wheel-chair accessible front entrance and bathrooms that can accommodate the handicapped.
The original building was built by residents in 1965, said Priscilla Ice, East Region manager for the Spokane County Library District. Thirty-plus years of use left it too small and in need of updated wiring, insulation, heating and cooling systems.
While the library is closed, Fairfield book lovers can request reference information and books from the Valley branch by calling 926-6283. There will be no charge for the mailing service, which usually gets materials to customers within two or three days.
The library catalog, as well as newspaper and magazine databases, also can be accessed online at www.scld.lib.wa.us.
Books can be checked out or returned to any county library branch. A book return also will be maintained in Fairfield next to the library on the museum porch. The library’s weekly storytime program will resume on Sept. 7 at Fairfield’s Presbyterian Church. It will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesdays.
Once the $375,000 renovation is complete, the Fairfield library will have a 40-person meeting room available for programs and storytime. The room also will be available to community groups after hours.
The renovation project is being funded by a bond issue approved by voters in early 1996. Fairfield’s Friends of the Library donated an additional $5,000 to build a plaza with a bench and planter.
