Two Unsigned Seahawks Still Need Signatures From Galloway, First-Round Pick

Jim Meehan Staff Writer

The Seattle Seahawks appear to be two contracts away from having a full house for Sunday’s first practice at training camp in Cheney.

The lone question marks are first-round draft pick Lamar King and veteran receiver Joey Galloway. King, a defensive end from Saginaw Valley State, wants a five-year contract voidable to four years. The Seahawks prefer a four- or five-year deal without voidable years.

Galloway, slated to make roughly $1.6 million this season in the final year of his contract, is seeking a sizable pay raise. Seattle has reportedly offered Galloway a five-year deal in the neighborhood of $22 million. The two sides have been talking since June.

Galloway has caught at least one pass in every game of his four-year career. He was eighth in the AFC with 1,047 receiving yards last season. Ten of his 65 catches went for touchdowns.

Galloway and King are represented by Eric Metz, who didn’t return phone messages Thursday.

The Seahawks’ initial practices Sunday are from 8:45 a.m.-10:45 a.m. and 2:45 p.m.-4:45 p.m. at Eastern Washington University.

Rookies and a few veterans, including QB Jon Kitna, arrived in Cheney on Thursday. The Seahawks received a signed tender from Kitna and also announced contract extensions for defensive end Matt LaBounty and center Chris Gray.

The remainder of the veterans are expected to be at a team meeting tonight at 5.

Seattle agreed to terms Wednesday with third-round picks Brock Huard, a quarterback from Washington, and Karsten Bailey, a receiver from Auburn.

Seahawks want less tax money

The Seattle Mariners asked for an additional $60 million to pay for cost overruns at Safeco Field. The Seattle Seahawks want to lower taxes for fans.

The county’s parking and ticket taxes would raise too much money, so state officials and the Seahawks asked the Metropolitan King County Council budget committee on Wednesday to lower the ticket tax to 3.1 percent and the parking tax to 1 percent at the football stadium. Both were at 10 percent.
