Letters To The Editor
Many deserve thanks for playhouse success
As my tenure as chairman of the Lake City Playhouse ends, I want to thank those who have made this year a spectacular success.
First to our patrons, for without the ticket-buying customer we would be gone.
Two years ago, the board and management of the theater took deliberate aim at the ticket-buying public and have devoted enormous effort and resource to listening to you and responding.
The volunteers at the Playhouse deserve a huge round of applause. Not just the actors and directors, but the makeup and costume artists, the musicians, the set builders and cleanup crew, the ushers and all the wonderful folks who give of themselves to our only community theater.
Volunteerism is alive and well, and nowhere have I seen this more clearly than at the Playhouse.
Thank you to the many area businesses that sponsor our shows, both in grants and in-kind donations. Without that corporate support, our ticket prices would not cover the expenses, and again, we would be gone.
The local press has been more than kind and has given the theater great coverage.
Finally, the paid staff of the Lake City Playhouse, while a very small group, is one of the finest theater crews in the nation and some of the best people I have ever been privileged to work with. Donald F. Morgan Board chairman, Lake City Playhouse
Apology expressed for conjecture on vote
As I was speaking about a proposed locomotive fueling depot at a meeting of the group Friends of the Aquifer, a member of the audience asked the question, “In your opinion, how do you feel the commissioners would vote if they had to vote today?”
I expressed the belief that if there was a vote on the depot today, Commissioner Ron Rankin would vote no, and Commissioners Dick Panabaker and Dick Compton would vote yes.
I want to publicly apologize to all of the Kootenai County commissioners for expressing my view on how you gentlemen would vote on the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad’s plan.
In no way should my statement reflect on the Friends of the Aquifer group. That comment was mine and mine alone, and I apologize to you, the commissioners, and to the citizens of Kootenai County for expressing my opinion in a frivolous manner. H. Richard Shutts Rathdrum
