Come Out And Help Clean Centennial Trail
Folks who love the Centennial Trail will have plenty of opportunities to get out there and enjoy it this weekend.
The seventh annual Spokane River Centennial Trail Celebration will be held Saturday.
The event includes foot races for kids and adults, a family bike ride of seven miles, plus a longer 18-mile ride, a “poker skate” for inline skaters and a nature walk and park presentation.
A one-mile kids run, for ages 12 and under, begins at 8:30 a.m. on the trail near Sullivan Road. Participants should meet in the parking lot outside the Spokane Valley Mall’s food court.
A five-mile run (or walk) for adults begins at 9 a.m. The race begins near Sullivan, heads east and returns to the start area. Participants meet in the mall’s food court parking lot.
A seven-mile family bicycle ride, which begins at 9 a.m. near Sullivan, takes participants westward to the Ashlock Bridge and back on a relatively flat stretch of trail. Participants should meet in the mall’s food court parking lot.
An 18-mile bike ride and a three-hour horse ride both begin in Riverside State Park at 9 a.m. A nature walk in Riverside State Park begins at 11 a.m. For details on these, call Friends of the Centennial Trail at 624-7188.
Registration for any of the runs is $15 for adults, $12 for members of Friends of the Centennial Trail, and $8 for children 12 and under.
All participants will receive a T-shirt, food, entry in prize drawings and “especially the knowledge that they are contributing to this region’s unique and beautiful pathway,” said Friends of the Trail executive director Nancy Gunn-Harsha.
Entry forms are available at local sporting good stores, or by calling the Friends of the Centennial Trail.
