Deer Park School Superintendent Leaving

Deer Park School Superintendent Glenys Hill has accepted a superintendent’s position with the Kelso School District beginning July 1.

Hill, 52, is finishing her sixth year at the helm of the Deer Park School District. She leaves Deer Park - with a student enrollment of more than 1,800 - for Kelso which has more than 5,100 students.

The Portland native said she took the job to be closer to her husband, Roger Rada, who is the superintendent of the Nestucca Valley School District in Tillamook, Ore. She said she also wants to be closer to her ailing father who lives in Portland.

Hill said she is happy with the events that happpened during her tenure, despite the fact Deer Park voters just rejected a $5 million bond last month.

“Some of the highlights were the development of an oversight team consisting of community members that focuses on positive change in the district and passing the bond in ‘95,” she said.

Hill is currently the only female superintendent in Spokane County and just one of 39 women out of 296 school districts statewide.
