CV Teachers Reject Contract

Teachers in the Central Valley School District voted Tuesday against a two-year contract.

The vote does not affect the last few days of school this spring. The new contract would have taken effect Aug. 31.

The reason the contract was voted down, said Jeff Brown, president of the Central Valley Education Association, was that elementary teachers are pushing for more preparation time.

Currently, elementary teachers in Central Valley have roughly half the amount of preparation time enjoyed by high school teachers in the district.

The union’s representatives are ready to return to the bargaining table, Brown said.
