No Word When Fairchild Crews Will Return
Despite a peace accord with Yugoslavia, air crews from Fairchild Air Force Base and the Washington Air National Guard haven’t gotten word on when they’ll come home.
“The order could come shortly, but we really don’t know,” said 2nd Lt. Khalid Cannon, Fairchild spokesman.
The 92nd Air Refueling Wing at Fairchild has 570 people and roughly 20 KC-135 tanker jets deployed to Europe. The crews and jets are part of the NATO mission against Serbian forces.
The unit sent 70 people to Europe this week, Cannon said.
The 141st Air Refueling Wing of the Washington Air National Guard - also stationed at Fairchild - have roughly 140 personnel and six KC-135 tanker jets stationed at Budapest International Airport. Unit officials have no word on when they might come home.
