Transient Found In Storage Facility

A transient believed to have broken into a Spokane Valley storage facility was arrested after Sheriff’s deputies found him passed out on the floor after sniffing chemicals late Tuesday night.

William R. Kelley, 26, was taken to a local hospital for chemical burns and inhalation. Afterward, he was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary.

Sheriff’s deputies said they were called to a storage business in the 5300 block of East Sprague around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The owner called police after finding a glass siding door smashed out of a mobile home used for storage.

The owner said he investigated and found a man lying in a bed in a back room and then called deputies.

Deputies discovered the suspect lying with a glass bottle up against his face. The bottle appeared to have the chemical toluene in it.

Medics were called because the man’s responses were slow and slurred. He was treated and taken to Spokane County Jail.
