Water Play Turns Ugly
Police arrested a 14-year-old girl Friday after an end-of-school water fight went awry, leaving a teen in need of stitches.
Officers were called to Thornton Murphey Park in the 3100 block of East 27th Avenue. They found a 17-year-old boy with a six-inch gash on his right shoulder and a smaller cut on his face.
During an afternoon water-balloon fight, the girl told a boy not to get her wet. The boy doused her with water anyway and when the girl swung at him, he teased her.
The girl told officers that she left the park and returned with a box cutter. She said she attacked the boy, officers said.
Police booked the girl into the county juvenile detention center on suspicion of first-degree assault.
The boy was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated and released.
