* Volunteers wanted … Valley Hospital and Deaconess Medical Center are getting ready to kick off their Summer Junior Volunteer Program for teens ages 14-18. * Caravan time … The YMCA’s Summer Caravan trips for teens begin this week and continue through August. Three- to seven-day trips for youth ages 12-16 offer exciting adventures including hiking, rafting, biking and horseback riding. * The downtown Spokane YMCA also holds “Totally Friday Nites” on the first and third Fridays of every month from 8 to 11 p.m. Open to 12-16 year olds, activities include basketball, volleyball, ping-pong, gym games, racquetball, foosball, Nintendo 64, music and more. * Adventure day camps … The Spokane Parks and Recreation department is offering day camps for youth ages 11-15 throughout June and July. Activities include rock climbing, rappelling and cooperative games. Cost is $135. Advance registration is required. The Parks Department is also hosting a teen camping and fossil trip for youth ages 11-14. Call 625-6200 for details on these and other summer teen programs.
* Free math camp … Gonzaga University is hosting a free two-week math/science camp for women and students of color who are in high school. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 12-23. * Artists wanted … A public awareness campaign for Spokane’s Promise: Bridging the GAP will kick off this fall and organizers need some posters for their presentations. They are looking for creative teens with art skills who are interested in helping to design six different posters.
