Madam Butterfly

Despite a handful of complaints, tattooed Barbie will not be grounded. However, her friends will be free of body art. Mattel, the nation’s largest toy maker, says it has received about a dozen complaints over tattooed Butterfly Art Barbie, a doll introduced last year with a huge butterfly tattoo on her tiny midriff. Mattel has not halted production of Butterfly Art Barbie, which is selling well, Mattel Inc. spokeswoman Lisa McKendall said Monday. However, McKendall said, the complaints have prompted Mattel to abandon plans to include tattoos and nose piercing on its Generation Girl dolls, a line of dolls for older girls that includes Generation Girl Barbie and her friend Chelsie.
