Two Children Drown At Red Rock Lake

Two Grant County children drowned Monday in a small lake near Royal City, Wash., sheriff’s deputies said.

The incident occurred sometime before 8 p.m. at Red Rock Lake.

Deputies said 10-year-old Guillermina Manzana was swimming in the lake with her family when she got tangled in some aquatic plants and began to struggle.

Her father, 12-year-old stepbrother and 8-year-old brother all swam out to try to help her, investigators said.

But the girl and her stepbrother, Bernardo Favian Acevedo, drowned.

The victims’ family has lived in the Royal City area for about seven years, deputies said. Guillermina was a student at Red Rock Elementary School. Bernardo attended Royal City Middle School.

The drownings were the seventh and eighth in Grant County this year. Seven of the victims have been children, including five who died when the car they were riding in plunged into an irrigation canal near Ephrata.
