Liberty Park Methodist Opens Library

Nina Culver Correspondent

Liberty Park United Methodist Church at 11th and Helena had an open house Sunday to show off its new Mom’s Mentoring Library Project.

The library, in the church’s basement, is open to neighborhood children and their parents.

Some features of the library include a large selection of magazines for kids and adults, a study area with a tutor and two encyclopedia sets, a religious area with children’s Bibles, a place for toddlers to play, and a collection of educational films.

Occasional field trips are also offered. Upcoming trips include fishing, canoeing and picnics. There are computers for children to use, and adult workshops are regularly scheduled.

“It’s a place where parents can come and learn how to better help their children,” says Pastor Vicenta Cisneros.

Children may come to the library without their parents as long as emergency contact information is on file with the church. Volunteers will be present when the library is open.

The library does not lend out items. Hours are currently 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Hours of operation will change on July 1.

For more information, call the church at 535-5588.

Cheney Bible school starts

The Cheney Seventh-day Adventist Church will host its vacation Bible school next week. Classes will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday.

The theme of the event is “Friends Forever,” and the school is open to all children ages 3-14.

Daily activities will include songs, games, stories and crafts. The school is free, and no advance registration is required.

For more information, call Debbie at 299-3778.

The church is located at 14408 S. Highway 904, across from the Cheney rodeo grounds.

St. John’s will offer labyrinth

The Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist will host a labyrinth in Cliff Park Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. The labyrinth is not a maze but a winding path designed for quiet meditation and contemplation.

All are welcome.
