Passenger Disappears During Ferry Run

From Staff

The Coast Guard combed the waters of Rich Passage at the southern end of Bainbridge Island on Wednesday for a missing ferry passenger, but without success.

Ferry workers counted three passengers on the passenger-only Tyee when it left Bremerton at 1:30 a.m. on a run to Seattle, but counted only two at the other end.

Ferry officials said they did not know whether the missing man fell or jumped overboard. A suitcase he was seen carrying also was missing.

The search was suspended at mid-day, the Coast Guard said.

Ferry workers on Tuesday night restrained a passenger from jumping off another ferry. An investigation concluded Wednesday’s missing passenger was not the same person.

The Tyee returned to service after assisting in the search.
