Head Start Enrollment Still Open

Spokane County’s Head Start Program, which started Monday, is still accepting children and their families for its summer session.

Although many of the positions are already filled, there are ongoing opportunities during the session, according to program officials.

Head Start is a program for low-income parents with children up to age 5. It offers free services, including on-site activities for kids, parent education, health screenings and other support.

Children’s activities depend on their age but can include basic math skill exercises, singing and playing outside. Depending on what time of the day the children start, they are fed breakfast and lunch, or lunch and a snack.

The programs are managed by the Community Colleges of Spokane’s Institute for Extended Learning.

To get more information, or to enroll in the program, call Spokane County Head Start at 533-8500.
