Othello

Former sheriff candidate Roberto Guerrero has filed two lawsuits against Adams County and Sheriff Mike Kline. Guerrero was a reserve officer at the time of the election. Upon re-election, Kline told Guerrero his services were no longer needed. Guerrero says his First and Fourteenth Amendment rights were violated.

Ferry County

Steve Crosten of Kellogg, Idaho, proved his mettle during the recent Republic Prospector’s Day celebration. For the second year in a row, Crosten was chosen All-Around-Minerafter placing high in handsteeling, 12-B mucking, spike driving and jackleg drilling events.

Grant County

Tonight is the unoffical opening of the new six-screen cineplex. Still undergoing last-minute construction, building owner Jeff Fairchild said he wants to work out the bugs and get public opinion. Local residents have been awaiting the opening of the $2.7 million facility.

County Corrections Officer Fredric Carl Johnson Jr., saved the life of an inmate having massive heart failure. Lyle Logan went into respiratory arrest April 27 while on Johnson’s watch. Logan is recovering.

Spokane County

The Browne’s Addition Neighborhood is once again sponsoring a series of summer concerts in Coeur d’Alene Park starting next Thursday with jazz group BeeCraft. The nine-concerts series will run every Thursday through Aug. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Stevens County

Colville

The Colville Sharks Swim Club is on the hunt in the British Columbia league. In a recent meet in Nelson, B.C., five Sharks brought home medals, including Kara and Karlie Pein, Dan Fondell and Kelly and Kimberly Brown.

Whitman County

The Pullman Summer Palace opened its 1999 season Thursday on the Washington State University campus with the romantic comedy “The Fourposter”. The play, a Broadway hit, chronicles a couple’s romance through the course of their marriage. Curtain time is 8 p.m. through Saturday, and then July 1-3.

St. Maries

Cliff Mooney, transportation supervisor for the St. Maries School District, has been awarded the Pupil Transportation Supervisor of the Year Award from the Department of Education. This is the first time a supervisor for a North Idaho school district has received the honor. It is given to the supervisor whose transportation department meets standards for impeccable record keeping, maintenance and safety practices.

Sandpoint

Sandpoint native and long-time business owner Lloyd Larson has been selected grand marshal of this year’s Fourth of July parade by the Lions Club. Born in 1914, Larson bought the J.A. Foster Company in 1940, and turned the business over to his son Dick in 1979. Larson was also a charter member of the Sandpoint Lions. This year’s parade theme is “Stars, Stripes and Sandpoint Forever.”

Bonners Ferry

The 1999 Boundary County Logger Events will be July 10 at the Boundary County Fairgrounds. Sponsored by Boundary Search and Dive Rescue, the contestant meeting will begin at 4 p.m. with preliminaries immediately following. Finals start at 7 p.m. Applications are available at North Columbia Equipment, South Hill Saw Shop and Boundary Tractor, or by calling (208) 267-9876.

The Bureau of Land Management is reminding people planning to adopt a wild horse or burro during Saturday’s adoption at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds that they need to have an approved application on file or have one approved prior to the adoption. Applicants must also provide a photo of the facility where the horse or burro will be kept and a sketch of the corrals and shelters they will use. Applications are available at the BLM office. BLM personnel will process applications at the fairgrounds from 7 to 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The adoption begins at 9 a.m.

JoAnn Mack, former area manager for GTE, has taken the position of president of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce board of directors. Mack has served on the chamber’s board for three years, two years on its executive committee. She and her husband, Phil, own Ambassador Auto in Moscow.

The Silver Valley Habitat for Humanity will sponsor its annual pig roast fund-raising event Saturday from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at West Shoshone Park. A stamp featuring Libby snowboarder Dan Karabacz will be available at post offices beginning Saturday. The photo, “Xtreme Sports,” was taken at Big Mountain by photographer Scott Spiker of Columbia Falls. Other stamps in the series depict skateboarding, BMX biking and in-line skating.
