Fireworks Illegal Within Spokane Limits

From Staff

With Independence Day fast approaching, firefighters are reminding residents that the sale or use of fireworks is prohibited in all parts of Spokane city and county.

The ban includes so-called “safe and sane” fireworks, like sparklers.

Authorities will confiscate fireworks and issue citations to people violating the ban. In the city, that means a $250 fine.

The city banned the use of fireworks in 1993.

Since then, there have been 15 fireworks-related fires in the city during the holiday reporting period (June 26 to July 6), according to the Spokane Fire Department.

In 1991, city firefighters said they investigated more than 120 fireworks-related fires between June 26 and July 6.
